PFC and how do I chose it?

Modified on Wed, 28 Aug at 11:42 AM

Any EU fertilising product needs to belong to at least one one of the product function categories predefined in the FPR under Annex I. EU fertilising products are subject to different safety and quality requirements depending on the function(s) claimed by the manufacturer.

Usually the product will determine the PFC. If it has nutrients, usually it's a PFC 1 fertiliser, is it an organic product, then PFC 1A, otherwise PFC 1B or PFC 1C. However there are also cases where a product can be seemingly falling under multiple PFC's.

The choice of PFC's is then up to you as a manufacturer. See also here: Can I have more than 1 PFC?

The PFC you fall under imposes the obligations you as a manufacturer must meet. In your technical documentation you need evidence to show you comply with the PFC you chose.

FPR Currently defines the following PFC's:

1.   Fertiliser

A.   Organic fertiliser
