Notified Bodies

Modified on Mon, 16 Sep at 7:25 PM

Notified Bodies are private bodies designated by EU member states to assess the conformity of  products before they are placed on the market. Their primary role is to ensure that products meet the essential requirements set out in the relevant EU directives or regulations, like FPR. Notified Bodies are designated by the national authorities of an EU member state.

They must be accredited and meet specific criteria, including technical competence, impartiality, and independence.

For many products, a successful conformity assessment by a Notified Body is a prerequisite for affixing the CE marking.

Essentially, Notified Bodies are the approval authorities for products. Think of them as an EU version of national registration authorities. We can provide answers to your questions on EU approval and, critically, assess your product and company (if required), and issue certificates. With certificates of a Notified Body you show compliance against the relevant regulations and can affix the CE marking.

The CE marking indicates that a product complies with EU legislation and can be sold throughout the EU, European Economic Area (EEA), and associated countries like Turkey, also meaning you can legally sell your product in the EU/EEA and Turkey using a single regulatory framework.
