Declaration of conformity

The EU Declaration of Conformity (DoC) is a crucial document that manufacturers or importers must prepare to demonstrate that their products comply with relevant EU legislation. Without the declaration of conformity CE marking cannot be affixed.

The EU declaration of conformity is the document that states that the product satisfies all the relevant requirements of the applicable legislation.

By drawing up and signing the EU Declaration of Conformity, the manufacturer assumes responsibility for the compliance of the product. It thus follows

In theory, its a formality of course because it follows after all the hard work has been performed. But by signing the document the manufacturer. 

The EU regulation or directive you are working with will contain the format of the declaration of conformity requirements. Broadly speaking the below at least is required: 

Sample EU Declaration of Conformity

Model/Type: [Model/Type Number]


Manufacturer: [Manufacturer's Name and Address]
Importer: [Importer's Name and Address, if applicable]


This declaration of conformity is issued under the sole responsibility of the manufacturer.


The object of the declaration described above is in conformity with the relevant Union harmonisation legislation:

Reference to the relevant harmonised standards used:

The product has been tested in accordance with the requirements specified in the above directives and found to be in compliance.

Note, a declaration of conformity must be per product but can be generic (not for a specific product batch) but this must be clearly documented.
